Declaration of Major

A declaration of the major should be done during the last semester of one's sophomore year and no later than the end of the first semester of the junior year (sometime between the completion of 45 and 60 credit hours).

Formal Major Declaration by students:

  1. Improves the accuracy and completeness of undergraduate major records,
  2. Facilitates assignment of undergraduate majors to departmental advisors,
  3. Encourages timely contact between students and major departments, and
  4. Makes the declaration of a major a more formal and significant engagement between the student and the department.

The College Student Academic Services Office provides departments with copies of the Declaration of Major forms. Students should complete the form and turn it in to the department in which they wish to major. The department should send a copy to Student Academic Services, 109 Strong Hall, and give a copy to the student. Each semester the Student Academic Services will alert students to the need to declare their majors.
