Grades and Grade-Point Average (GPA) |
|
The letters A, B, C, D, S (satisfactory), and CR (credit) are used to indicate
passing work. The letters F and U (unsatisfactory) and NC (no credit) indicate
that the quality of work was such that, to obtain credit, the student must
repeat the regular work of the course. P (progress) represents satisfactory
progress, an interim grade pending completion of a subsequent term’s
course work. NOTE: there are four types of GPA used depending
on the determination needed:
· KU GPA: all KU attempted A-F hours – a 2.0 is required for
graduation.
· KU + Transfer: GPA of all hours taken at KU and transferred to KU.
· Calculated GPA: KU + KU correspondence courses used for certifying
graduation – a 2.0 is required for graduation.
· Junior/Senior Major GPA: junior/senior level major hours used for
certifying graduation with the major – a 2.0 is required for graduation.

Grades of W/WP/WF (withdrawn), I (incomplete),
P (progress), S (satisfactory), U (unsatisfactory), CR (credit), and NC (no
credit) are not figured in the GPA. To calculate the GPA, add the grades points
earned and divide that total by the number of hours attempted, those that
are graded A, B, C, D, or F. For example:
| MATH 104 |
5 hours of A = |
20 points |
| ENGL 101 |
3 hours of B = |
9 points |
| SPAN 104 |
5 hours of C = |
10 points |
| PSYC 104 |
3 hours of D = |
3 points |
| HSES 104 |
1 hour of F = |
0 points |
TOTAL |
17 hours |
42 points |
Divide 42 by 17 to = 2.47 GPA
