Minimum and Maximum Hour Requirements for all CLAS Degrees (B.A., B.G.S., B.S.)

General Education Goals

Minimums

    • Total Hours: 124
    • Liberal Arts and Sciences Hours: 100 (starting with initial term Fall 08)
    • Junior/Senior Hours (numbered 300 or above): 45
    • Hours in Residence at KU: 30
    • KU Cumulative Grade-Point-Average: 2.0
    • Grade-Point-Average in Junior/Senior Hours in the Major: 2.0
Maximums
  • Hours from other schools and Divisions of the University: 24 (starting with initial term Fall 08)
  • Hours from Community Colleges: 64
  • Hours in Physical Education Activity Courses: 4
  • Hours in Music Organization Courses: 6
  • Hours in the B.S. Major: 50
  • Note: No maximum major hours for B.A. and B.G.S. degrees.
Courses numbered below 100 and marked with an ampersand (&) do not count toward a degree but are included in the grade-point-average. Course numbers in parentheses are honors versions. B.A. and B.G.S. Common Degree Requirements

Additional B.A. Requirements

      Laboratory Science
      • One course or a combination of a lecture and a laboratory course.
      Foreign Language
      Proficiency in one language through the fourth level:
      • Elementary Language I
      • Elementary Language II
      • Intermediate Language I
      • Intermediate Language II
Additional B.G.S. Requirements
      Minor or Junior/Senior Concentration
      • All minors must be a minimum of 18 credit hours with at least 12 hours numbered 300 or above.
      • Students must earn a 2.0 or better GPA in all courses taken for the minor. Minors vary so see Undergraduate Catalog for specific minor requirements.

      • For the Junior/Senior concentration a student must take 9 hours numbered 300 or above in a specific area (e.g. MATH, PHIL, ENGL, etc). It may not be the major of the student. For example, a COMS major may not have their Junior/Senior concentration in COMS.
